Orange Scones
Orange Scones
I loooovveee scones. I love to bake but not really a huge sweets person and scones are perfect because they aren't super sweet.
I've been making this recipe for a long time, I'm not sure where I got it from but it's tried and true. The secret to scones is not to over mix it or they wont' be fluffy.
Ingredients
2 cups flour
1/3 cup sugar
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
Zest of one large orange
1/2 cup cold butter cut into pieces
1 egg
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/2 tsp vanilla
Glaze
3 Tbsp melted butter
1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp fresh squeezed orange juice
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Mix together in a large bowl the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and orange zest. Next add the cold butter and with a pastry cutter or a fork or your fingers mix until the dough is coarse crumbs. Add egg, sour cream, heavy cream and vanilla into the dry ingredients. Do not over mix, seeing chunks of butter is a good thing. Combine until it just comes together.
Separate the dough into two. Pat each section into a 1 inch thick circle and cut each ball into 6 piece, making 12 total small scones. Place scones on baking sheet. Brush the tops of each scone with a little bit of heavy cream. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
Let scones cool for 10 minutes and then make the glaze. Mix together all the ingredients for the glaze. Dip each scone into the glaze coating the top. Let harden and enjoy!
