Grilled Pizza
Grilled Pizza
This is my favorite way to eat pizza in the summer.
You get to have delicious pizza without having to heat the house up.
You can make this pizza with your favorite toppings but the recipe below was what I was feeling tonight.
Ingredients:
-Pizza crust (I used the one in the tube--fancy, I know)
-Hot Italian sausage-browned
-Caramelized onions (medium yellow onion and butter)
-Banana peppers
-Jarred pizza sauce
-Shredded mozzarella cheese
-Fresh basil
Instructions:
Brown the sausage in a skillet. In a separate skillet make the caramelized onions-thinly chop one medium sized yellow onion on low with 2-3 tablespoons of butter for about 15-20 minutes until caramelized.
Meanwhile, pre-heat your grill. Turn it on high for about the 15 minutes while you make the sausage and onions.
Once toppings are ready turn the grill down to low. Stretch out the dough and lay it directly on the grill. Shut the grill top. You will know it is ready to flip when it doesn't stick to the grill anymore. Cook until lightly grilled maybe 5-10 minutes.
Flip the crust-This may take two people and two spatulas.
Now you have to move quickly. Add all the toppings.
Keep the grill on low and shut the lid. Grill until the crust is fully cooked through and cheese is melted. Top with fresh basil.
Remove the pizza and enjoy!!
